Today felt like falling off of the trapeze just as we reach it with our fingertips. We had some great progress with Skinny Cart, we made blue prints for the physical cart, started work on a logo, researched products based off our interviews, and embarked on our social media campaign. We were cooking. It was exciting to see everything come together, as we prepared to open monday morning. We still had some work to get done and some questions to be answered, but we were making progress. We wanted to use social currency, to offer a desirable ora and become talked about. We planned to use social media to create this aura for Skinny Cart. By tweeting about deals and locations, we could create and connect with a following and receive traction.
Unfortunately, we slipped right when we thought it was in our grasps. We concluded the day with a meeting with Ms. Korda and Ms. Samson, about money exchange and profit regarding the class’s companies. Basically the final decision was that there would be none. There could be no profit made, no sales, by a team currently earning credit in the class. This basically crushed our team. Yes, we could make a hypothetical business model, and focus on expansion; however, the business model would be based off of assumptions. With out testing our assumptions, they can’t be proven. There would be no social media campaign because we had no deals, no social currency. With out running the cart, we couldn’t test food items, for traction or price. Our company appeared to be sunk.
Luckily there was a net to catch our plummeting aspirations. The safety web of our entrepreneurial education saved us from our imminent failure. It was time to take our tools and everything we have learned in this class and iterate like we have never done before. This takes grit, thank god we have it in abundance. Everyone has barriers, its time to shut up and get to work. There is no “can’t” in entrepreneurship only “yes we can”.
