Taming The Jungle

I strolled into the Gries Center expecting to see my senior classmates, but instead I stumbled into a noisy jungle of laughing hyenas, squeaking monkeys and growling panthers. The squawk of toucans made it impossible to think. Pesky jackals ran rampant snatching up ideas while lurking crocodiles lay just below the surface waiting to snap at anyone’s misspeak.

The chaos increased when all four teams were forced to work together to divvy up schools to visit for our work with Bold Guidance. We fought over the best way to list all the schools. We threw our  tools to the side and instead just barked out each school to be written down on the board  with the largest gorillas pounding their chest to be heard. Ms. Cho, the alpha lion of the group, tried to calm us down with a 4,3,2,1 countdown, which apparently means nothing to a stampede of wildlife calling out names of Greater Cleveland Area high schools.
Finally we started working as a mighty pride and used our tools to evolve the process. We all wrote down schools with a mix of private, parochial, public, and charter on sticky notes and placed them on the wall. Then all  four herds simply picked three schools from each of the different school types and moved the sticky notes to a modified knanban board.

Today, showed that the tools we are learning can solve even the most outrageous problems, such as putting the jungle at ease. The class as well learned the value of respect, as we reflected on the day and realized that such uncivilized behavior would never be expectable in a board room thus it can not be tolerated in our class room.
